Single of the Week April 29/13 - The Lost Patrol "See You in Hell"

This week's Single of the Week on www.koolrockradio.com is "See You In Hell" by The Lost Patrol, taken from their brand new album Driven, out now.

'Driven' marks album number four with Mollie Israel as lead vocalist. Israel along with multi-instrumentalists Stephen Masucci and Michael Williams, have managed to craft another batch of eclectic, yet accessible, widescreen soundscapes.

"See you In Hell" is the fifth track on the album and features most of the trademark Lost Patrol elements, it's dark, dreamy, ethereal, cinematic, and it also turns into a surf-rock wave.

About the song, the band said: "We wanted to try something with a different vibe. Some of our influences aren't always so obvious, and we really wanted to do something a little more experimental. It's a little more aggressive than the typical Lost Patrol tune, but it is influenced by bands and songs we all enjoy listening to, and we think it opens doors to other avenues we'd like to continue to explore and expand upon -- to keep things fresh and interesting in our arrangements and songwriting."

"Lyrically, 'See You In Hell' is basically about being ridiculed and not giving a damn." Mollie added.

The Lost Patrol new album Driven is out now, you can purchase the digital format on Bandcamp, or get it directly from the band's online store.

Brussels based band Age Of Giants have unveiled the official video for "The Beast", taken from their forthcoming as yet untitled debut album.

The lead singer and creative force behind the Age Of Giants, is David Caggiari, frontman and founding member of our favourite noughties group Apartment, now disbanded.

We had a little chat with David, about his new band, the album, and The Beast...

"It [the album] was all written using stream of consciousness, and its a true collaboration of me and great musicians and friends. Its very majestic. It's about going through heart ache, epilepsy, losing consciousness, finding consciousness." he explained.

About the song, David said: "The Beast is a very personal song... about leaving London and becoming a pariah. It's about being the worst possible version of yourself and eventually being reborn. Once you've burned every bridge, you can do nothing else but to start rebuilding."

"Losing Apartment was very difficult for me... but it was destiny. I used to be the big bad boss in the band... and I think Davide especially resented me for it. It was always me against them. So I was the Beast, I became the Beast for my ex-girlfriend, I became the Beast for all that I left behind but I had no choice. London had made me sick, and I had to run away." He added.

"The Beast" was recorded at studio pyramide in Brussels by maxime Gendebien, and mixed in London by Adrian Hall. Watch the video below.

No release date for the album has been set as of yet. We will keep you updated.

Hook & The Twin Announce Debut Album 'Never Ever Ever'

British duo Hook & The Twin have announced they will released their long awaited debut album titled 'Never Ever Ever' on 24th June through Dancing Coins.

Our very good friends Marcus Efstratiou and Tom Havelock, caught our attention back in 2009 with their first single 'Race for the Bone', and then they just killed us with their second brilliant, catchy single "Bang Bang Cherry", which peaked at #3 in our Best Tracks of 2009 chart. 2011 saw the band release two new great singles "Tribes" and "We’re So Light", both -along with Bang Bang Cherry- included on their forthcoming album.

In a recent interview about talking what to expect from the album they said: "10 songs strung over a series of detailed, psych-infused electric atmospheres - some of them pretty stripped back and brutal, some of them layered up into full-on hypnosis sessions. But there always a song at the heart of things. If you give it a full spin through all 10 songs, we hope it’s a big ride."

About the recording process, they explained: "We did a lot of moving round between different people’s studios and houses, harvesting little pieces of sound from instruments we liked. And there were a few odd buildings we managed to get into for a couple of days at a time - like an empty theatre where we recorded a lot of the vocals. Then we took it all to Andy Ramsay’s studio, went wading through the tapes and started trying to tie the thing together."

Their 10-track debut album will be available through all the usual digital outlets, and you now pre-order it on their Bandcamp page and get an advance of the first track 'That Was A Day', which is part of our current playlist www.koolrockradio.com. The  single version of 'That Was A Day' will be released on 10th June.

Speaking of the EP, Tatum has said: "This is a record that happened very fast for me. We had just gotten back from a particularly long European tour last November, our first supporting 'Nocturne', and I was feeling a lot of things. I found myself struggling with what it meant to be a musician, with what music in general meant to me and what part I could possibly play in it. Playing the same songs every night for months left me bored with myself. But when I got home, for the first time in awhile it suddenly seemed that the pressure was off. We didn't have any tours planned for several months and I started to remember again why I love music in the first place. I listened to Brian Eno and David Bowie for weeks on end and felt like I was hearing them for the first time. I took a trip to Miami with my girlfriend. I visited my family. I felt free to try things musically that I would have stifled before. The songs on this EP were recorded over a 10 day period and are a reflection of this time. Of all the frustrations and successes and moments of peace in between."

The Divinyls Singer Chrissy Amphlett Dies Aged 53

Iconic Australian rock star Chrissy Amphlett, the singer and former frontwoman for The Divinyls, died on Sunday afternoon after suffering from cancer and multiple sclerosis. She was 53.

Amphlett's husband, Charley Drayton, released a statement in which he said her "light burns so very brightly". Drayton wrote that she "passed gently, in her sleep" and was surrounded by her close friends and family at her New York home.

Amphlett was the lead singer with pop band The Divinyls, which she co-founded in 1980, and released six albums with the group until they informally split in 1997.

Famous for Amphlett's sexy schoolgirl outfit, torn fishnets and wild on-stage antics, the Divinyls had their first hits, Boys in Town and Only Lonely, after appearing in the 1982 film Monkey Grip.

The band is best known for their 1991 single, I Touch Myself, which reached number 10 in the UK Top 40 and number four in the American charts, despite the song struggling to get airplay in the US due to its controversial subject. Amphlett later said that she hoped the song would remind women to perform breast examinations.

Amphlett went on to have a stage career, playing Judy Garland in the Australian production of The Boy from Oz in 1998.

The Divinyls re-formed in the late 2000s, during which Amphlett announced she had multiple sclerosis. She discussed her treatment for breast cancer on television in 2010, which, due to multiple sclerosis, had to be without radiation treatment.

The singer posted about her health problems on her Facebook page in March, saying: "the last 18 months have been a real challenge", but that she had not stopped singing.

Drayton added that Amphlett's life was one of "passion and creativity; she always lived it to the fullest. With her force of character and vocal strength she paved the way for strong, sexy, outspoken women."

Her death brought sadness to the local music industry. Her peers voted her the No.9 best Australian singer of all time in a News Limited poll last month. She leaves her husband and her sister Leigh.

RIP Chrissy.

Single of the Week April 22/13 - Alpaca Sports "Telephone"

This week's Single of the Week on www.koolrockradio.com is "Telephone", another great indie-pop track by Swedish act Alpaca Sports, out now via Dufflecoat Records.

Alpaca Sports is actually Andreas Jonsson solo project with the occasional help from other friend musicians, and one of these supporters is Amanda Ã…kerman, who lends her lovely and sweet sounding vocals to many of his songs.

Having already delighted us with songs such as "I Was Running", "She'll Come Back For Indian Summer", A Million Times, among others, Andreas Jonsson is now ready to start working on a full-length.

In a recent interview talking about Alpaca Sports upcoming debut album, Jonsson said: "Hopefully it will be released in August or September 2013. We have 3-5 more new songs to record and after that I think it will be a great mix of songs! The album's title will be 'Sealed With A Kiss'. The whole record will be a cute and romantic love letter. And I hope you'll like it!"

We're sure we will enjoy it Andreas.

Meanwhile, let's focus on "Telephone", the Single of the Week on Kool Rock Radio.

Tickets For Stone Roses Movie Premiere Sell Out In Less Than a Minute

Tickets for Shane Meadows' upcoming Made Of Stone: Stone Roses documentary film premiere, which will take place at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, went on sale yesterday (18 April) and have sold out in less than one minute.

The tickets are also sold out for the UK cinemas who are taking part in the nationwide broadcast, which has led to Picturehouse putting on additional screens.

Speaking about the news Meadows says: "I'd love to think the tickets selling out so quick was down to the fan base I've built up over the last 15-20 years, but I know it's them lot that everyone's really coming to see. Bald Chunkers like me don't sell out stadiums, but if we've got a Guinness World Record I would deffo take the credit."

In a recent interview about the film, the director said: "It's not very often one of your heroes asks you to make a documentary about your all time favourite band, that are getting back together after twenty years." He was not only given unprecedented access to the band for almost a year, but he also followed fans of the Stone Roses around the world, to understand the influence that the band's music has on them.

The film will debut for the first time on Thursday 30 May and have a general release on 5 June. You can watch the trailer here.

Listen: Daft Punk Share Audio For New Single "Get Lucky"

French Electronica robot duo Daft Punk have finally shared the audio for their new single "Get Lucky".

Featuring Pharrell Williams and Chic bandleader Nile Rodgers, "Get Lucky" is the first cut taken from Daft Punk upcoming album 'Random Access Memories', which will be out on May 21st via Columbia Records..

A radio edit of the song can be purchased on iTunes. Stream it below.

In related news, it seems that Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories won’t come equipped with a video accompaniment, the robot duo recently told a French magazine there won't be any clip -at least for now.
“For now, there won’t be any clip. The record was made in a pretty old-school studio. We’re going to rediscover the spirit of the great spectacles of giant billboards on Sunset Boulevard for bands like Love, The Doors, Led Zeppelin. On certain TV shows, we might show 15 or 60 second spots.
“Firstly, we don’t want to influence people’s ideas [of the music] with images. Second, most of the records we like and that are the source of inspiration for this record, those are pre-MTV albums. You’ve got the sleeve, lots of pictures and info, that’s all, and the absence of visuals around The Beatles doesn’t bother us, and in fact makes their music more accessible to us. ‘Thriller’ is the ultimate masterpiece. After that, it won’t be the same anymore, because of video clips.
“Our vision is this - ’There you go. The record’s here. Listen to it, dive into it, and we’ll see after.’”

Visage New Album 'Hearts And Knives' Dedicated To Producer Martin Rushent

Visage have revealed that their forthcoming album 'Hearts And Knives' (their first album in 29 years) is dedicated to Martin Rushent, one of the top English record producers during the late '70s and early '80s, who died in June 2011.

In a message posted on their Facebook, Visage say:
The new Visage record 'Hearts And Knives' is dedicated Martin Rushent.
For those of you who don’t know, Martin Rushent died in June 2011 and was one of England’s finest ever record producers. He is best known for his work producing 'Dare' by The Human League, however in his time he also worked with The Stranglers, Shirley Bassey, The Buzzcocks and many more. In 1978, shortly after formed Visage, Martin signed our first ever single 'Tar' to his Genetic Recordings record label. We went on to record our first album at his then new Genetic Studio. In those days it all was a bit embryonic; new gear, in a new studio with us learning as we went along. Martin would pop his head around the door a few times a day “Hi Chaps, how is it going?” as we struggled with some piece of studio gear.
In 2010 we approached Martin to take on an executive producer role for our (at that time) nascent album idea. He kindly accepted and was more than happy to discuss production templates, song ideas and the general direction of the album. He was also halfway through a new version of 'Frequency 7' at the time of his death. Although Martin was unable to see his work through on 'Hearts and Knives' you may notice that some of his mantras, thoughts and ideas have percolated into the fibre of the record. The instrument choices, direction & the musical styling’s are all references to him.
Thank you Martin for your immense help in getting us started in 1978 and everything since.
Martin Rushent (11 July 1948 – 4 June 2011)
Visage new album 'Hearts and Knives' will be out on May 20.

New Order Confirm They Are Working On New Material

New Order frontman Bernard Sumner confirmed the band are now working on new material and plan to record it soon.

In an interview with the Rolling Stone on their current US tour, Sumner said: "We're coming out in small bursts and writing in small bursts at home – so we’re constantly here whether you like us or not, we’re here to stay".

He describes the band's most recent work as more electronic- and synthesizer-based, which they were excited to return to after their more recent guitar-heavy material.

"That's not to say there won't be enough space on the album for enough cool guitar tracks if someone's got them," Sumner says. "I think New Order's a hybrid band and will always remain so."

This new material might happen as an album but maybe also as a series of EP's and it would be the first NEW ORDER release without bassist Peter Hook who left the band in 2007.

In the meantime enjoy the band's recent Coachella performance of 1985's "Perfect Kiss" below.

Album of the Week April 15/13: SULK 'Graceless'

Our new Album of the Week is London based five piece SULK brilliant debut album 'Graceless', out today (15 April) via Perfect Sound Forever Records.

The band's long awaited debut album was recorded and produced in Brussels by former Suede, Pulp and White Lies associate Ed Buller and mixed by Jonas Verwijnen and Antti Joas in Berlin.

'Graceless' is heavily inspired by 90s guitar psychedelia, ‘Madchester/Baggy’ and the early Britpop sound.  It would be impossible to walk away from listening to this album and not think of The Stone Roses, Suede, The Charlatans, and we love the idea of having a current edge album with those classic Madchester sounds. Lucky for us, Sulk has managed to keep the essence of that era wonderfully.

The 10-track LP is full of psychedelic-indie guitar riffs making the perfect combination with lead singer Jon Sutcliffe's catchy voice. Since the first time we heard SULK back in 2011, we knew they were going to be big, and with Graceless they could make our Best Album of 2013.

**SULK peaked at #9 on Kool Rock Radio's Best New Bands of 2011 list. Their singles "Wishes" and "Back in Bloom" peaked at #16 and # 42 in our Best Tracks of 2011 chart. "Flowers" peaked at #2 in our Best Tracks of 2012.

Haven't bought 'Graceless' yet? What are you waiting for? We highly recommend this album, so get your copy HERE right now!

Tracklist:

01. Sleeping Beauty
02. Flowers
03. Diamonds In Ashes
04. The Big Blue
05. Marian Shrine
06. Back in Bloom
07. Wishes
08. Down
09. If You Wonder
10. End Time

Visage Reveal "Shameless Fashion" Off Their First Album In 29 Years

New Romantic pioneers Visage are back with a brand new brilliant single titled "Shameless Fashion", taken from the band's upcoming fourth album "Hearts And Knives", their first release in 29 years.

The song is part of our current playlist www.koolrockradio.com and is is out now digitally, the CD format will be available on May 6.

Frontman Steve Strange reformed Visage — which split in 1985 after three albums — several years ago, recruiting the band’s latter-period bassist Steve Barnacle,  former Ultravox and Magazine guitarist Robin Simon and new singer Lauren Duvall.

In the band’s press kit, Strange says of the decision to revive Visage:

“It was a question really of all the parts falling into place. Firstly, I am at a point in my life where I have been clean for 10 years and I am happy with my life and, secondly, the positive people I now surro9und myself with —not least the members of Visage — helped to create an atmosphere where the album started to happen. It took us three years and it was no easy ride, but it’s here now and we are all really pleased with it.”

Stream "Shameless Fashion" below.

Visage new album 'Hearts and Knives' is to be released on 20 May 2013.
