Shane Meadows Unveils Stone Roses Documentary Title

Filmmaker Shane Meadows' forthcoming documentary on the Stone Roses reunion has been entitled "The Stone Roses: Made Of Stone".

The renowned director has teamed up with Film4, 4DVD and Warp Films for the project, which tells the story of the Manchester band’s comeback tour last year which was defined by the record breaking three-night stay at Manchester’s Heaton Park.

Meadows has said: “When Ian Brown rang me to tell me my favourite band of all time was getting back together again, it was like every Roses fan’s wildest dreams were coming true. People tell you that you can’t recapture your youth, it won’t be the same. I don’t believe that.”

“I’m going to make up for the nightmare of a lifetime at 17 years old, being sat in a flat having a bad trip when I could have been at Spike Island, being part of one of the most momentous things ever.”

Film4 executive producer Katherine Butler added: "It’s hard to think of a film that could be any more exciting. A combination of Shane’s wonderfully insightful directorial eye, the seminal genius of The Stone Roses, and our brilliant friends at Warp – what else is there to say? We’re thrilled."

The film includes footage of the band's early rehearsals and subsequent performances on the road in Spain, Germany and Japan, and it's scheduled for cinema release later this year.

Electronic To Re-Issue Debut Album

90′s supergroup Electronic, featuring Bernard Sumner (New Order/Joy Division), Johnny Marr (The Smiths) and Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys), will re-released their debut self titled album in an expanded and remastered edition, featuring some previously unreleased tracks.

The reissue will include a newly remastered edition of the original album on one disc, accompanied by a second CD featuring a dozen alternate versions, remixes, edits, B-sides and instrumentals, including the Tennant-sung non-album single "Disappointed" and two versions of the title track to 1999's Twisted Tenderness.

Musing on the group's origins recently, Johnny Marr said: "We were two musicians who wanted to get away from the suffocating politics of the band. At the same time it was OK for duos and DJs and non-groups to make records, and that really appealed to Bernard and me. We saw ourselves more in the tradition of David Byrne and Brian Eno, with a lot of technotronics and FX, and Kraftwerk was a very important touchstone for Bernard. So the times were perfect because it was all right to make records with machines, and not have to be four guys stood up against a wall."

The new edition of 'Electronic' will be released on April 8th. The Tracklisting is as follows:

01. Idiot Country (2012 - Remaster)

MGMT have revealed plans to release their self-titled third album and follow up to 2010's 'Congratulations' this June.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, members Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden said the new effort, produced at Dave Fridmann's Tarbox Road Studios in upstate New York, has a tentative June release date.

The psych-rock duo recorded everything on their own, influenced by the likes of house music and the Aphex Twins. Confirmed tracks include songs called "Mystery Disease" and "Alien Days," as well as a cover of "Introspection" by '60s garage group Faine Jade.

Goldwasser says that he and VanWyngarden are "not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it... There's no illusion on [Columbia Records'] part that that we're going to turn into a Top 40 band."

Peace Reveal Details Of Debut Album "In Love"

Peace have revealed details for their debut album "In Love", which is scheduled for March 25th.

In Love, the follow up to their 2012 EP Delicious, was produced by Jim Abiss who has previously worked with both Arctic Monkeys and Adele.

The album will included the re-worked version of the single 'Follow Baby'. Frontman Harrison Koisser said of the track: "This one time, I woke up in the morning and 'Follow Baby' had lodged itself in my head, almost fully formed. Like a product of a dream or a gift or maybe something weirder."

"It felt special and shiny. I guess it is special and shiny. Actually maybe it didn’t happen like that. I’m 95% sure it did but either way that would rule right?"

Koisser also spoke about the album, saying: "If watching thousands of romantic movies and singing billions of love songs throughout our lives hasn't left us thinking that getting really really in love is something we want, need, h8 or dont give an F about then maybe IN LOVE is about to."

"I guess as an album it feels like an antidote or something. I'm not sure what for but can you really be sure about anything? It's 2013 and it's time to find out." He continued.

The Knife have unveiled the video for their new single "Full Of Fire", the lead track from their forthcoming new album 'Shaking The Habitual' out on 8th April. The song is part of our current playlist www.koolrockradio.com.

The short film was directed by Marit Östberg, who says of the video: "Who takes care of our stories when the big history, written by straight rich white men, erase the complexity of human’s lives, desires and conditions? The film ‘Full of Fire’ consists of a network of fates, fears, cravings, longings, losses, and promises. Fates that at first sight seem isolated from each other, but if we pay attention, we can see that everything essentially moves into each other. Our lives are intertwined and our eyes on each other, our sounds and smells, mean something. Our actions create reality, we create each other. We are never faceless, not even in the most grey anonymous streets of the city. We will never stop being responsible, being extensions, of one another. We will never stop longing for each other, and for something else."

The track is the duo's first single proper since 2006's 'We Share Our Mothers Health'.

The Smiths Drummer Mike Joyce 'Dreams' On Reunion

Mike Joyce, former drummer for The Smiths, still believes the band could reunite.

Joyce told The Sun: "I actually had a dream that Morrissey, Johnny, Andy and me were all in the same room and we actually agreed to do a tour. Morrissey said, 'What song shall we open with?', and we replied in unison, ‘Hand In Glove’. That’s what the show should open with. Then I woke up laughing."

"It would sound great. I’m a better player than I was. Morrissey’s voice is still incredible, Johnny is playing great. With the equipment and PA systems 30 years on, if we got up on stage and played, it would sound incredible. A promoter asked me, ‘Why don’t you just do it — it would make millions of people happy?’ I said, ‘You’re asking the wrong man.'"

"I don’t think about it every day. But if they asked me, I’d probably say yes. If you put everyone in the same room it’s amazing how things can turn around.” He added.

The Smiths ended abruptly in 1987 shortly after Johnny Marr announced he was quitting the band at the height of their powers. In 1989 Mike Joyce sued his former bandmates Morrissey and Johnny Marr over missing royalties.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O words on the recording process: "We have this little shitty studio downtown [in New York] that belongs to us, so we wrote songs and recorded demos whenever we felt inspired; it was kind of like how we did Fever to Tell and our first demo. And emotionally, it’s been a rollercoaster– being back in New York is intense for me. I’ve gone through an identity crisis. It’s been very emotionally intense for Nick, too. He was going through a break-up while we were making the album. It was just all kind of down."

OMD To Release New Album 'English Electric' In April

OMD have announced they will release their brand new album 'English Electric' on April 8th.

According to the band, the album is an attempt to move forward, yet without losing their distinctive sound.  In May 2012, Andy McCluskey was interviewed on the BBC about the sound of English Electric and had the following to say about the new album:

"Lyrically, English Electric seems to be an exploration of how one's Utopian dreams often end in dystopic failure and regret. Musically, it uses many current sounds and styles. Dresden sounds very 'OMD,' Our System is like a Glitch style Stanlow/ROTT if that can be imagined. Helen of Troy sound like Georgia meets first album Depeche. Please Remain Seated, Decimal, and Atomic Ranch use programmed robotic voices and have a hint of Dazzle Ships to them."

English Electric will be released April 8th as CD, deluxe CD+DVD, heavyweight vinyl LP, collectors' tin boxset as well as digitally, and will be preceded by the single, "Metroland" which is scheduled to be released on March 25th.

MANGELEXEMPLAR - Band of the Month January 2013

Depression is a fucking event, that is the motto of  Mängelexemplar.

They combine words into patterns of thought to which all leave space for their own interpretations. Danceable and it should be fun... but above all danceable. For their sound, they use mainly analog sound sources.

There is no box they would fit in or where they want to be. Their music is electronic, experimental, simple and straightforward. They are uncomfortable, unpleasant, honest, direct, infantile, crazy, sarcastic, cheeky, autonomous, authentic and energetic with absolute attitude - they are - Mängelexemplar.

The band's first album is called "Freizeit und Technik" is influenced by the 80's sound, and was released in October 2012 under the label KERNKRACH (hertz 036). One of our favourite songs on the album is the song "Universal" which peaked at #18 in our Best Tracks of 2012 chart.

The band are currently working on their new material "Disco - to go", which is due for release in 2013. Mängelexemplar on their new release: "There is so much to tell, for the next release we had the simple pleasure to make everything different. This idea came to us while singing and dancing in the kitchen. The sound is similar to the music from the 90s."

Here's the band's first taste of Disco to-Go: "Minimal Sound".

Watch: Django Django Share 'Hand Of Man' Video

Django Django have unveiled the video for 'Hand Of Man', taken from their self titled debut album, released last year.

Speaking about the video, John Maclean describes the video as being; "The end of great things. The party was the last day in our friend's building which will inevitably be knocked down to make way for more dodgy flats with tiny triangle balconies - art, film and music studios destroyed to make way for fast-buck housing developers pricing the working classes and the artists out of central London. The end of film developers and kodak film stock. And the beginning of great things, Django Django, the spirit of youth, integrity finding a way to live forever, and fresh bread."

Suede Reveal First New Material In 10 Years

Suede have unveiled "Barriers", their first official release in 10 years.

The song has been add to our current playlist and is the first taken from the band's forthcoming album, 'Bloodsports', out on March 2013.

In a press release, frontman Brett Anderson explained: "After a year of sweating and bleeding over the record it’s finally finished so we wanted to get some music out there as soon as we could. 'Barriers' isn’t the first single but we are proud of it enough just to chuck it out there and thought that it’s pulsing, romantic swell somehow summed up the feel of the album quite nicely."

"The album is called Bloodsports. It's about lust, it's about the chase, it's about the endless carnal game of love. It was possibly the hardest we've ever made but certainly the most satisfying. It's ten furious songs for me have reclaimed from ourselves what Suede was always about; drama, melody and noise." He continued.
